![]() Each team is judged on how “silent” they really are throughiut each meal. Sometimes, the girls and boys eat coed meals too. Many camps also have silent meals in the dining room. Some are the regular sport activities and some are more unique activities for each camp. The teams compete against each other in many activities. They chant cheers and sing songs about their teams throughout the days and nights of color war. They eat, sleep and breathe that team color. (You have to be there or have been there to understand the feeling of it!) Color War goes on for several continuous days (3-5 depending on the camp) of continuous activity that takes place the last week or so of camp.Ĭampers dress up in his/her team colors for the next few days. Being award a leadership position on a color war team is one of the greatest accomplishments in summer camp history. The teams have leaders such as: Generals, Lieutenants, Captains, etc. The teams are often given names such as: Blue Alaska and Gold Hawaii. For instance, if your camp colors are Blue and Gold, the camp is split up into the Blue Team and the Gold Team. The team colors are (usually) the camp colors. The camp is split up into teams (usually 2 teams, some camps do more). ![]() It’s always an incredible experience because it signifies the start of the most intense few days of sportsmanship and competition! Whatever the break out is, it doesn’t matter. There is constant chatter and excitement amongst the campers and staff as to when the banner will be back up because everyone knows that as soon as the banner gets hung back up, color war will be breaking within the next 24 hours!Ĭolor War “Break” is huge! It’s awesome and it’s something campers talk about for a long time! I still remember most of my color war breaks! Many camps, go all out and have amazing color war break outs! There have been: motorcycle shows, hot air balloons, dueling knights on horseback, airplanes flying over camp, celebrities, etc. A few days before Color War breaks the banner goes “missing”. For instance, my daughter’s camp (my camp!) has a banner that is hanging up on a wall in the dining hall with the camp name in the camp colors. Some camps have many traditions leading up to Color War breaking out. For example, some fake outs have helicopters flying over camp dropping ping pong balls or papers saying something like, “Fake Out”! Whatever it is, it is a fun way to round all of the campers up and get them psyched for Color War! This only builds the excitement! They can be little fake outs or big fake outs. They can happen any time of day with no warning. Fake outs are teasers for the campers to let them know color war is coming. Leading up until the Color War Break there are events called “Fake Outs”. ![]() This is just an overall explanation and a look into what it’s all about!Ĭolor War is one of the most spirited, competitive, and amazing events that a camper pours their heart and soul into. *Color War varies in many different ways. Here’s a little insight into “Color War” and why it means so much to campers… Some camps call it Olympics as well as other names. Campers are gearing up for a big end of the summer competition, most commonly referred to as Color War.
